Three of the National Metrology Division’s Science Research Specialists of the Mass Standards Section, Kiveen P. Suycano, Aries Ordoña and Ivan L. Opao attended a five-day Technical Training in Mass Measurement at the National Metrology Institute of Japan, Tsukuba, Japan last December 4 to 8, 2017 through the project, “Strengthening the Physical Metrology Capabilities of the Metrology Laboratory” under the program, “Enhancement of the Competence and Capabilities of the National Metrology Laboratory of the Philippines”. The technical training’s key objective is to enhance technical capabilities of NML in the verification of weights according to international recommendation and to improve the traceability of mass measurement in the Philippines. The technical training focus on calibration of E1 weights by subdivision weighing design, measurement of magnetization, magnetic susceptibility, solid body density and surface roughness and uncertainty of measurement. The said training will be beneficial for the Mass Standards Section of NML to achieve the DAkkS Accreditation of up to 50 kilogram E2 calibration of weights.
