Pressure and Force Standards Section

Overview

Overview

The Pressure and Force Standards Section (PFSS) maintains national and reference standards for pressure, force, torque and hardness.

The PFSS is competent under the terms of ISO/IEC 17O25 to carry out calibration of pressure standards and plans to extend the accreditation to all the other quantities in the lab. Continuous development on capabilities is also envisioned as to provide for the country’s metrological needs.

Calibration Method

Direct Comparison

Pressure reading of the Unit Under Calibration (UUC) is compared to the pressure generated by the standard.

Example:
  • Industrial gauge compared to a test gauge.
  • Test Gauge compared to a pressure calibrator.
  • Pressure calibrator compared to a pressure balance (hydraulic and pneumatic)

Method A of EURAMET Calibration Guide EM/cg/03.01/p

Calibration Procedure:

The Unit Under Calibration (UUC) is connected to a pressure standard that is used to apply known gauge pressures. Measurement series of increasing and decreasing pressures will be applied depending on the accuracy of the UUC, using the appropriate pressure medium such as air, water, nitrogen gas or hydraulic oil.

Trainings offered:

The PFSS offers in-house and on-site training on the “Introduction to Pressure Metrology and Calibration of Pressure Gauges
